my mother's pecan pie

my mom made her "famous" pecan pie for the reunion today.  as you can see from the picture, she has much more "Martha Stewart" in her than me (my food may not always be pretty, but it is always good). this is her recipe.

1 8-inch unbaked pie shell
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons flour
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup dark karo
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1 cup pecan pieces
1 cup pecan halves
  1. preheat oven to 325
  2. mix sugars and flour in a small bowl
  3. brown butter on the stovetop over low heat and let cool
  4. beat eggs in a large bowl
  5. stir in cooled brown butter and sugar-flour mixture, until well combined
  6. add in vanilla, karo, maple syrup, and lemon juice and beat well
  7. stir in pecan pieces and pour into pie shell
  8. top with pecan halves
  9. bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until firm to touch (after about 20 minutes of baking, you will need to cover the rim of the pie shell with foil)
